MY STORY
I AM THE ETHNOGRAPHIC PARK AND BOTANICAL GARDEN PIRÁMIDES DE GÜÍMAR
Did you know that I was founded by Thor Heyerdahl in 1998? This prestigious Norwegian explorer recognized the great value of the heritage that I contain: six stepped pyramids, astronomically oriented to the sun. My story, therefore, begins with Heyerdahl’s personal purpose to protect and study these peculiar pyramids, since their conservation was in danger due to an urban planning scheme.
My garden areas, rich in Canarian biodiversity, also seduced Heyerdahl. This botanical treasure has allowed me to evolve as a living, outdoor museum… I host several specialised gardens, as well as several routes about the flora, culture, nature, history and geology of the Canary archipelago. For this reason, since 2017, I am also a botanical garden.
Faithful to the vision and principles of Thor Heyerdahl, I am a sustainable Park dedicated to the conservation of my 67.000 m2 of extraordinary Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Likewise, I have been a member of ICOM (International Council of Museums) since my inception, and of NEMO (Network of European Museum Organizations) since 2018.
