The Ethnographic Park Piramides de Güímar is candidate to become a nominee to the European Museum of the Year Award 2017, presented by the European Museum Forum (http://www.europeanmuseumforum.info/). This award was founded in 1977 under the auspices of the Council of Europe, with the aim of recognizing excellence in the European museum scene and encouraging innovative processes in museums.
A judging panel has been visiting museums from twenty two different countries throughout this year, Pirámides de Güímar being the only Spanish museum represented in this edition. The panel will present the final list of nominees towards the end of the year.
The recent opening of the Sustainable Garden at the Ethnographic Park has played a key role in the museum’s potential nomination to the award, as it represents a new model for the development of endemic Canarian gardens. The Sustainable Garden, developed in collaboration with the University of La Laguna, displays and promotes the values of sustainability throughout a 1000m2 reproduction of a typical Canarian ravine, including its characteristic flora and even a water course with specimens of European eel.
